Always in the conversation for greatest commentator of all time, the incomparable Kevin Kelly has been part of the wrestling business for 30 years, most famously for his work as an interviewer during WWE’s Attitude Era, interacting with mega-stars such as The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. For a number of years he was the lead commentator for Ring of Honor, before finding himself a second home in Japan as the English voice for New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he today provides sublime commentary to English speaking fans worldwide.
In this interview, Kevin gave us a peak behind the commentary curtain, detailing his process from preparing his notes, to producing his fellow commentators and being a tremendous play-by-play commentator. He spoke about the numerous people who have joined him at the desk over the years, including wrestlers such as Juice Robinson, and even revealed that NJPW wanted to bring in Bret Hart to do commentary! Kevin regaled how Shinya Hashimoto ribbed Satoshi Kojima by filling his hotel room with cicadas, and how just a few years ago a number of the roster filled Kojima’s room with oranges, poor Kojima!
